Franciscan Missionaries, Godalming

Ladywell Convent is an extensive multi-use residential religious campus with conference facilities, based around an original Arts and Crafts manor house, lodge and stable block.

Heritage Restoration and Regeneration

Scurr Architects secured listed building consent for two new buildings, which are located near the existing grade II structures. This included permission for extensive restoration and rebuilding works across nearly all buildings on the site. The restoration of the historic stable block required our team to design and source bespoke handmade brick and tile designs to match the arts-and crafts style detailing on the existing building.

The new buildings included a workshop building to support the site vehicle fleet and maintenance team and the staff building providing separate staff support facilities.

Heritage Reimagined for Living

The renovation of the existing buildings provided a variety of contemporary residential accommodation for sisters and conference guests, dining rooms and living areas, and a modern conference centre together with support areas. Construction was carried out building by building in phases over about three years, a timeline that included some of the covid lock downs. This approach allowed the sisters to continue to live and work on site throughout the building works.
