Royal Star & Garter, High Wycombe

The most recent of the three homes that we designed for Royal Star & Garter was officially opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra. The home is a state-of-the-art home providing care for seventy four elderly and disabled veterans in a welcoming and stimulating environment.

Contemporary Veterans’ Residence

The four-storey, high-specification care home has been designed to create a welcoming and stimulating environment for elderly and disabled veterans and their partners, featuring the latest technology in nurse call, resident lifting systems, assisted bathing and fire evacuation systems. Resident bathroom ensuites were built with factory built steel framed pods providing construction time saving and consistent high quality finishes. Bedrooms and bathrooms have been provided with integrated ceiling hoist systems allowing easy resident transfer around their bed and into the ensuite.

The bedrooms and communal areas are all designed in a contemporary style in keeping with the exterior of the building. Interiors are rich with colour, textures and graphics.

Modern Care Architecture

Externally the building façade is constructed with a mix of materials including curtain walling, cladding, render, brickwork, and bespoke pressed metal features all of which combine to achieve a modern linear style building reminiscent of cruise liners. The building has achieved the BREEAM Very Good rating. There are a number of significant upper floor terraces, with secure full height glazing, which allow residents living on all floors to enjoy outside space in complete safety. The external areas were all landscape architect designed from the outset and planted with carefully chosen planting to provide enriching environment for residents to enjoy and participate in gardening activities.
